Renfrewshire Ladies County Golf Association
congratulate Padraig Harrington on his Open Championship win at Carnoustie
|

Just a note to let you and my friends at Renfrewshire know
that Neil and I got married in St Lucia on 11 July 2007.
It was just what we wanted - no fuss. We were on holiday with 11 year
old Scott who took his duties as 'Best Boy' and 'Ring Bearer'
very seriously.
Here is one of the zillions of photographs taken on the day --
(Click on the Photo above to see an enlargement)
Hope to be playing in the Autumn meeting and I will bring the album
along then.
Many Congratulations to both you and Neil (Mr and Mrs Woodhead) from all at RLCGA |

Padraig Harrington has become the
first Irish winner of The Open Championship since Fred Daly in 1947. He
clinched the title in nail-biting fashion in a four-hole play-off with
Sergio Garcia of Spain.
He had a one stroke advantage on the final hole of normal play but twice
put his ball in the Barry Burn to take six. Garcia then had the chance
to win at the 72nd hole, but bunkered his second shot and took five to
force the play-off.
Harrington took an immediate advantage in the four hole decider,
holing a birdie putt from eight feet while Garcia was bunkered short of
the pin and failed to get up and down. They matched shots at the 16th
and 17th before Harrington laid up in two at the 18th.
Going for broke Garcia hit his driver and then fired a six-iron
from the light rough on the left 203 yards into the centre of the green.
Harrington's approach pulled up outside Garcia's ball and his first putt
rolled three feet past. Garcia's putted shaved the hole but made the
return, leaving Harrington an unwanted three-footer for the title.

Tuesday 10th July 2007: Renfrewshire lose out in close match with D&A
|
Renfrewshire were pipped today by a very strong
D&A Team . In the morning foursomes the top team of Megan and
Clare- Marie played fantastic golf to beat the formidable pairing of
Anne Laing and Sarah Bishop. Donna and Gillian Kyle also won by a large
margin against Susanne Cadden and Judy Galbraith. Gillian McGinlay
and Julie Wilson had a very tough tie against the partnership of
Gemma Wilson and Kylie Walker
Renfrewshire
therefore led D&A by 2-1 after the
foursomes and then they took the top two singles through Megan Briggs and
Claire-Marie Carlton.
However, with an exceedingly strong last 4 players for D&A ---
namely Sara Bishop, Anne Laing, Gemma Webster and Kylie Walker.
--- It was an uphill struggle. Gillian Mullen(Paisley) who had
replaced Lesley Robertson's late call off due to illness put up a
brave fight but Sara Bishop was too strong for her. Gillian Kyle
played ex Curtis Cup Player Anne Laing and Gillian McGinlay and
Donna had to play their best golf if they were to have a chance
against Gemma Webster at 5 and Kylie Walker at 6.
Gillian McGinlay played so well to take
Gemma to the 18th and a chance to half match.
Donna also did so
well by taking Kylie to the 18th and she said it was all lost on
the putting
WE NEARLY DID IT !!! ---- WELL DONE EVERYONE
Ayrshire led Lanarkshire 2-1 after the foursomes and then won the top
two singles through Lesley Hendry and Debbie Watt. Catherine Malcolm got
Ayrshire’s clinching point.
Day 2 results:
LANARKSHIRE 4, AYRSHIRE 5
Foursomes: E Cuthill & P Pretswell lost to L Hendry & M MacPherson 1
hole; S Wood & A Hendry lost to D Watt & R Purdom 4 and 3; M Hughes & L
Lloyd bt C Malcolm & R McQueen 5 and 3 (1-2).
Singles: Pretswell lost to Hendry 2 and 1, Cuthill lost to Watt 4 and 2,
Wood bt Purdom 2 and 1, R Rankin bt MacPherson 1 hole, Hughes lost to
Malcolm 4 and 2, A Devine bt McQueen 2 and 1 (3-3).
DUNBARTONSHIRE & ARGYLL 5, RENFREWSHIRE 4
Foursomes: A Laing & S Bishop lost to M Briggs & C-M Carlton 5 and 4; S

Singles: J Meldrum lost to M Briggs 4 and 2, H Faulds lost to Carlton 4
