Thursday 26th April 2007: Megan retains the County Championship trophy
|
|
 |
Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) has retained the
Renfrewshire women’s golf championship she won for the first time at the
age of 16 last year.
At Erskine Golf Club, Megan, who qualified in fourth position, beat 10
times record county champion Donna Jackson (Cochrane Castle), the
leading qualifier, for the second year in a row, this time by 4 and 3 in
the morning semi-final instead of in the final.
In the final Megan beat Stirling University student Clare-Marie
Carlton (Fereneze), who won the title in 2003, by one hole in a very
tight match. They were all square after 16 holes. Then Megan won the
17th and halved the last to be champion again.
Clare-Marie, the No2 qualifier, had beaten the No 3 seed, Gillian
Kyle (East Renfrewshire) by 3 and 1 in her semi-final.
Results:
Semi-finals – M Briggs (Kilmacolm) bt D Jackson (Cochrane Castle) 4 and
3, C-M Carlton (Fereneze) bt G Kyle (East Renfrewshire) 3 and 1.

was in wonderful form today to post a gross 74 - 2 under the CSS of 76
to lead the qualifiers for this years County Championship. The next best
was a 77 by both county team players Clare- Marie Carlton (Fereneze)
and Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire), with Clare- Marie
being runner up by virtue of the better inward half.
Lasts years winner , Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) was the only other
player to break 80 on a day of heavy showers, drizzly rain and the very odd
dry spell.

Eva and Gillian had to give 6 shots to the opposition -----
However, June and Roisin played wonderful golf and were out in 39
--- 3 over par to be 3 up at the turn. At the 10th hole after a
tremendous chip by June, Roisin, then sank the putt for a birdie 3 to go
4 up. Gillian and Evi were then only 1 over par for the next 5

Tuesday 10th April 2007:Sarah Kirby is the winner of the April Medal
played at Gourock today
|
Congratulations go to Sarah Kirby (Ranfurly Castle)
who had the best scratch score of the day and the only player to
break 80. Despite having a 9 at the 8th, she was out in 39 and then came
back in 40 for a gross 79. Playing off a handicap of 10 meant she
had a net 69 winning the Scratch - 12 handicap award.
Under the 19.8 stableford adjustment rule the 9 is converted to an 8 and
with the CSS being 75 for the day, Sarah was 7 under for
handicap purposes and is therefore cut by 1.4 ----- Well done Sarah. Liz Williamson (Ranfurly
Castle) was the winner of the Handicap 13 and above division with a net 71.

one person yesterday
|
Congratulations go to Jennifer Graham (Haggs Castle)
who (after a random draw) is the winner of last months

were as follows : From left to right in the picture -- Brenda Stewart,
Jane Thomson and Freda Tuck. The event was the County Jamboree (2006)
at East Renfrewshire -- and the reason they were happy was
Renfrewshire was winning.
Thanks for all who took part in the quiz and filled in the entry

fool yesterday worked on at least one person on the committee. I will
not name her but I at least had a laugh !! |
